In this edition of “The Voice of Our People,” we introduce you to Joan Serra, a Project Manager who joined us in September 2021. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and deep commitment to his role, and ensures that every project he manages is executed with precision, efficiency, and the highest quality standards.
A Day in the Life of a Project Manager
For Joan, being a Project Manager at Mespack is anything but ordinary. “This is not a boring job at all,” he says with a smile. “Every day presents a new challenge, something never seen before.” His role is vital to coordinating all areas of the company’s specific projects, from the initial purchase order to the final delivery and installation of machinery at the customer’s facilities. His role represents a key player who ensures that everything happens on time with the required quality.
One of the most crucial aspects of his job is his role as the voice of Mespack to the customer. Joan centralizes all communication, guaranteeing that the flow is transparent, consistent, and effective.
Building Trust Through Communication
One of Joan’s greatest satisfactions in his role comes from building trust with customers. “I enjoy it most when I feel the confidence of the customer as a result of the work we do every day. It is incredibly rewarding.” Joan highlights the importance of face-to-face communication, noting how it enhances the connection with customers. While most interactions occur through video calls, emails, and phone calls, the opportunity to meet clients in person is invaluable.
“Direct contact is a big step forward in building relationships,” he says. “Sharing a meal, discussing personal experiences, or exploring cultural differences; these moments break down many barriers.”
Transparency: The Key to Success
For Joan, transparency is the cornerstone of a successful customer relationship. “Being transparent in both good and bad moments is essential,” he explains. Customers need to feel informed at every stage of the project: from the very first conversation to the final delivery. When this partnership is established, collaboration becomes easier, even when challenges arise. “At the end of the day, transparency makes for a better experience on both sides.“
A Memorable Moment
Joan recalls a memorable experience with a customer from Indonesia during a particularly challenging project. Despite the difficulties, a relationship of mutual respect was formed. During the customer’s visit to Barcelona, Joan suggested they attend a heavy metal concert of an international band. “They came to Mespack to see packaging machines, and ended up having a fantastic night watching their guitar heroes” Joan laughs. This experience exemplifies the strong bonds that can be built through shared experiences, even beyond the professional realm.
