Digital transformation in the packaging industry is no longer a future concept; it is a present-day priority. Across global markets, companies are accelerating efforts to automate processes, connect machines, and leverage data for smarter decision-making. At Mespack, we are proud to be shaping this evolution, which combines engineering excellence with next-generation technologies that serve our customers and drive the industry forward.

Technologies Powering the Shift

At the heart of this transformation are powerful tools that are redefining the manner in which packaging lines operate. Flexible magnetic track technologies, such as Rockwell’s iTrak, have become key enablers, allowing for greater agility in production and automated changeovers, thus boosting efficiency, reducing downtime, and increasing machine adaptability.

Simultaneously, AI is emerging as a game-changer. While still in its early deployment stages in this industry, its potential is vast, especially in predictive maintenance, production optimization, and autonomous decision-making. At Mespack, we are actively preparing for this future by designing systems that can integrate AI capabilities as the technology matures.

Digital Transformation at Mespack

Internally, we have taken bold steps to digitize operations across the globe, resulting in faster logistics, improved planning, and greater data visibility across teams. Externally, our Mespack Athena platform empowers customers with real-time machine data and performance analytics. While predictive diagnostics remain an aspiration rather than a current reality, we are laying the foundation for future capabilities. A key innovation is Hello Mespack which is a dedicated tablet integrated with the machine. It serves as a direct communication interface with our after-sales team, hence enabling quicker support and faster issue resolution. Secure remote access via the eWON system, ensures that customers maintain full control, with a physical network selector that keeps the machine isolated from the internet until intentionally activated. As a result, top-tier cybersecurity through outbound-only communication with Mespack servers is ensured.  Furthermore, we are also mindful of regional differences in digital maturity. In many countries, government-backed programs have helped accelerate digital adoption. Other regions prioritize automation due to workforce shortages, cost pressures, or regulatory compliance. Mespack systems are designed to be modular and adaptable, thus enabling consistent performance across diverse global environments.

To further enhance connectivity, we have introduced Hello Mespack, our central digital hub that streamlines communication, technical documentation access, and ticketing support in one intuitive platform. It is a user-friendly gateway that simplifies customer interaction and reinforces our commitment to service excellence in the digital age.

The Human Element: Evolving Roles & Empowerment

Automation does not replace the human element: it redefines it. As machines increasingly manage repetitive tasks, human roles are shifting toward data supervision, strategic decision-making, and collaborative problem-solving. Mespack is committed to supporting this evolution with intuitive systems, training programs, and transparent data interfaces.

In our vision of the “factory of the future,” the traditional shop floor transforms into a seamlessly orchestrated, intelligent environment. Autonomous robots handle repetitive, high-precision tasks such as feeding and palletizing, freeing human workers from manual, time-consuming operations. AI algorithms monitor machine performance in real-time, constantly analyzing sensor data to fine-tune settings, predict potential failures, and suggest corrective actions before issues arise.

At the heart of this setup is a centralized digital command center: large, high-resolution dashboards that display live KPIs, production metrics, energy usage, and maintenance statuses. These screens are not just informational, they are interactive tools that enable supervisors to delve into performance data, visualize trends, and make quick, informed decisions.

Operators shift from managing machines to managing systems. Instead of reacting to breakdowns, they proactively oversee optimization that is supported by smart alerts and AI-generated recommendations. Cross-department collaboration becomes easier with integrated systems, ranging from procurement and production to logistics and service.

Connectivity reaches every level: machines talk to machines, data flows securely across the enterprise, and cloud-based platforms enable remote worldwide monitoring and support. The environment is not only intelligent, but also adaptable. It is able to scale, reconfigure, and evolve with minimal disruption.

This is not in reference to replacing people, it is to empower them. Human expertise remains vital for innovation, decision-making, exception handling, and continuous improvement. At Mespack, we believe the factory of the future, is one where people and machines harmoniously collaborate, to elevate productivity, quality, and agility to unprecedented levels.

What Is Next: A Roadmap for Innovation

To remain at the forefront in this fast-moving space, Mespack is focused on reaching several key milestones:

  • 99% autonomous machines that require minimal operator input
  • AI-embedded systems that detect and prevent failures before they occur
  • Plant-level connectivity, where machines communicate and self-optimize across the line

While we are a pragmatic company and do not hasten into early-stage tech investments, we stay informed about emerging trends and are prepared to respond in due course. AI deserves particular focus; we believe it will play a central role in the next wave of smart packaging innovation.

We also see strong potential for further digital transformation in areas like customer service, after-sales support, and maintenance diagnostics. These functions, when powered by data and automation, can radically improve machine uptime and customer satisfaction.
