Through working together, Hoffer Plastics (spouts), Dow (plastic resin), HPM (converter), and Mespack (packaging machinery), are on the cusp of finalizing a flexible pouch packaging solution that enables the use of sustainable resin closures with recyclable mono layer film. From the beginning, we have worked as a collaborative team, sharing knowledge, experience, and the commitment to doing whatever it takes to create solutions that will benefit our customers and the environment.
Although each partner has brought their unique perspectives and areas of expertise to the project, the true key enabling us to move forward successfully has been full collaboration with a spirit of open communication and trust, despite cultural, time zone, and language challenges. In a recent test with Hoffer Plastics, Dow, HPM, and Mespack, we discussed the importance of this collaboration to achieve the best solutions for the customer. We concluded with the following:
- Industry Trends: As we transition to mono-material recyclable packaging, the collaboration among partners has been crucial. We are currently addressing the conversion of non-recyclable multi-material packaging into recyclable mono-material solutions. This effort is driven by new market requirements and the collective expertise of our partners.
- Shared Knowledge and Innovation: Each partner contributes their expertise to tackle specific challenges. Dow brings new resins to the table, ensuring that the packaging delivers the required performance and performs at the desired speed. Hoffer Plastics provides innovative closure solutions, while HPM focuses on material compatibility and sourcing challenges. Mespack’s role is pivotal, as we provide the machinery that brings these solutions to life.
- State-of-the-art Technology: Blending the Best from Each Partner for a Pioneering Sustainable Solution, in this regard:
- Dow, a pioneer in innovative resins for recyclable flexible packaging, provides the material with excellent barrier properties that protect products from moisture and oxygen. These resins offer a perfect balance of flexibility and durability, ensuring strong and user-friendly packaging.
- Furthermore, HPM complements this with advanced technology that converts these resins into high-quality, eco-friendly films, meeting the highest industry standards for performance and recyclability. Additionally, Hoffer’s P-15 closure, a low melt spout to help with mono PE film compatibility, which uses 46% less plastic than its predecessor.
- Last but not least, the Mespack H180FE machine epitomizes versatility and compact design. This equipment produces medium-sized flat and stand-up pouches with various applicator options, achieving capacities up to 1,500 c.c. and can be adapted to include up to four filling stations. This adaptability enhances flexibility and offers comprehensive packaging solutions, embodying the synergy of our state-of-the-art technologies.
