Cartoners & Boxes

Secondary Packaging Machines. From single pack to shipping-ready: cartons, American boxes and wrap around cases.

What is Secondary Packaging?

Secondary packaging groups your stand-up pouches, sachets or stick packs into cartons or cases, ready for the shelf and for transport. There are three ways to do it: cartoning, RSC case packing in American boxes and wrap around case packing. Mespack builds secondary packaging machines for all three: cartoners, RSC case packers and wrap around case packers, so you can choose the one that fits your product or combine them in one line.

What do you need to pack?

  • Sachets or stick packs in a retail carton. Cartoners
  • Pouches or flow packs in standard shipping boxes. RSC Case Packers
  • Pouches, pillow bags or cartons in tight, retail-ready cases. Wrap Around

Cartoners

Folding cartons for sachets and stick packs

A cartoner, or cartoning machine, groups sachets or stick packs, loads them into a folding carton and closes it. The result is usually the pack the consumer buys.
Best for: single-dose products sold in retail boxes or multipacks.

RSC Case Packers

American boxes loaded from the top

An RSC case packer works as case erector, top load case packer and case sealer: it erects a standard American box, loads pouches or flow packs from the top and seals it with tape or hot melt.
Best for: flexible packs shipped in standard corrugated boxes.

Wrap Around Case Packers

A case formed around your product

A wrap around case packer folds and glues a flat blank around the product group, so the case fits exactly and uses less cardboard.
Best for: pouches, bottles, cartons and flow packs in tight or retail-ready cases.

Cartoners & Boxes FAQs

Secondary packaging groups primary packs, such as sachets, stick packs, pouches or bottles, into cartons or cases for sale, handling and transport. The main options are cartoning (folding cartons), RSC case packing (American boxes) and wrap around case packing. Mespack manufactures secondary packaging machines for all three.

A cartoner, or cartoning machine, packs individual products, such as sachets or stick packs, into a folding carton, which is usually the pack the consumer buys. A case packer, or case packing machine, groups products or cartons into a corrugated shipping case for transport. Many lines use both, one after the other.

In RSC case packing a pre-glued American box is opened by a case erector, loaded from the top and closed by a case sealer with tape or hot melt. In wrap around case packing a flat blank is folded and glued around the product group. RSC cases are standard and easy to source; wrap around cases fit the product tightly, use less cardboard and can be retail-ready.

Stand-up pouches are usually packed in corrugated cases. Choose an RSC case packer if you want a box packer machine for standard American boxes loaded from the top, or a wrap around case packer if you want a tight-fitting case with less cardboard or a retail-ready pack. Mespack offers both as automatic case packers.

Mespack, a Duravant company based in Barcelona, manufactures cartoning machines (CS | CL Series), RSC case packers (EF100 and MCP) and wrap around case packers (W Series), designed to work in line with its sachet, stick pack and pouch machines.

Start from the product and how it will be sold. Sachets and stick packs sold in a retail box need a cartoner. Pouches and flow packs shipped in standard boxes suit an RSC case packer. If you want less cardboard, tight cases or retail-ready packs for pouches, bottles or cartons, choose a wrap around. Mespack experts can assess your case.
